Tito Ortiz vs Dana white
By Jesse Holland
Special to UFCmania.com

Have you ever been in a situation where someone tells a joke in front of a group of people and it bombs? And instead of having the grace and dignity to accept defeat they just stand there and try to either expound on the joke with an even worse follow-up joke, or they try and walk you through it to explain why it was funny enough to be told in the first place?

That’s kind of how I feel about the upcoming premiere of Bad Blood: Dana White vs. Tito Ortiz tomorrow at 11 p.m. on Spike TV. Only this joke, in addition to being humorless, has no punch line. What started as an awful premise has become nothing more than a contemptuous and embarrassing extension of bad taste for all parties involved.

The show is an in-depth look at the exhibition boxing match Dana White and Tito Ortiz were set to have on March 24 after many years of name calling and finger pointing because as we’ve all learned, fighting solves everything.

However, the promised three-round session never happened.

I won’t bore you with another retread of how or why Dana and Tito were going to fight in the first place. You can catch up on the history from one of our earlier posts here.

I’m sure the primeval among us will beat on their chests and tell you what a great idea this was since the whole concept of the UFC is built upon two men beating the crap out of each other.

But this is not an accurate assessment.

What happens inside the Octagon is a sport with honor and integrity. Using your skill and ability to settle differences outside of the cage in the name of MMA is like using a Louisville Slugger to smash a pitcher’s mailbox after striking out in the World Series in the name of baseball.

No matter.

After all the talk and all the hype Tito was a no-show and that surprised me because he seemed to be the one that wanted this fight the most. Ask him what happened and he did something so inexcusable, so mind-boggling, I can barely put it into words: He checked with his girlfriend and she said no.

Folks I have nothing against Jenna Jameson. She’s done a lot for the male population. But as you’ll read here, Tito claims his absence was all about business. You know when I think informed business decision Miss Jameson isn’t really the first person that comes to mind.

And when did we amend the man-law to make it okay to get permission from your girlfriend? Look I have to get permission from my wife all the time but at least I have the common sense to lie about it:

“Sorry guys I’d love play poker in a hot tub at Scores but I have to meet a client and get contracts signed.”

Anyone who remembers the stoppage that was Ortiz-Shamrock 2 will remember Dana’s damage control: “We know you hated the ending just as much as Ken did so we’re going to give it to you again and this time we’re going to put it on free TV!” (Like anyone would have paid to see them fight yet again).

In keeping with that tradition of hype first, disappoint later (Wanderlei Silva anyone?) the boys at UFC programming decided to give us an inside look at the bad blood between Dana and Tito with a tell-all conclusion to their saga in an effort to hide the fact that once again, they failed to deliver on a hyped-up fight.

Maybe this time they were doing us a favor. Now do yourselves one and don’t tune in.

If they show this without the fight happening it will be terrible. Dana will have a black eye without ever fighting.

It sucks to hear the same info over and over, but this is a business in the end of it all. This show tom. night will bring in more viewer’s than the first episode of TUF 5 watch and see. The sport has gone to hell. It’s commercial now! It still won’t stop me from watching the 3 round exibition, when it goes down….LOL

“He checked with his girlfriend and she said no.”

Once Tito loses to Rashad he will be considered a second tier fighter. At this point he can expect to be dumped by Jenny.

Let’s clear one thing up:

The Fight DID NOT happen, and WILL NOT be aired tomorrow night during the Bad Blood episode.

It is footage that was shot leading up to the event that NEVER HAPPENED.

It’s probably going to show Dana White training and getting prepared for the fight, and Tito pulling out.

My guess is that it is designed to make Tito look foolish, and Dana look like he was game.

Again, DON’T expect to see the boxing match tomorrow. It never happened.

Lord I hope that’s clear enough.

Any chance that they punked us, and the fight will actully take place… maybe it was an exhibition and results didn’t have to get posted? I really don’t want to watch Dana’s training regiment for 2 hrs.

Who do you think would have profited or did profit from this SPIKE feature? To me it looks like Dana is the one that would have or did profit. (I am sure spike paid something)
Now if this was you on the opposite side of Dana…..would you not want to cash it as well? I think most of us would have wanted to cash in BUT I don’t think we would have our “Girl Friend” call the BOSS unless they have or had a strong previous “professional” relationship.

Maybe UFC has another upset in store for us. DANA KNOCKS OUT TITO IN THE 1ST ROUND.

Pretty sad that they are going to AIR something that never happened. Coming soon to SPIKE “UFC SOAPS”

Tune in for the last 15 minutes, that will be enough. I am sure it will be Dana in the ring and cricket sounds, then will cut to the Tito Blog entry of “my girl friend/business adviser said i should make money off this. You may recognize her. No, Yoko Ono is Asian.”

Ignore it.

In all probability, this show is only airing because of a contractual obligation to Spike. Does anyone else think that Spike could have passed on this one? Especially since they have the gift of a pay-per-view event this month. No doubt Dana was pissed about the cancellation and wanted this special to air so it would show Tito as an idiot.

Dana needs to remember that he is the head of a company that has built it’s success on the good relationships with its fighters. When Dana starts acting like Vince McMahon, I’m outta here.

This is MMA not BOXING!

Tito doesn’t need to prove anything to anyone…he has already secured a spot in the hall of fame for sure. This show is only going to air to make Tito look like a douche when in all rights anyone of us would have done the same thing as Tito.

The only thing I am disappointed in is how Tito just didn’t show up to the weigh-in that was a little disrespectful.

But who knows maybe this is all a giant April Fools Joke!

Tito in Hall of Fame? MMA is new and Tito can’t hold with the new era of MMA. He needs somebody like Dana to beat on so people may begin to respect him again. Even cry-baby Forrest Griffin almost beat his ass and probably would of if it went a few more rounds. Let’s wait until UFC has been around a good 30 years before we secure anybodys spot in hall of fame. The only acception would maybe be Royce Gracie, I could agree he’s secured his legacy. Personally i want to see Dana beat the shit out of “The Huntington Beach Bad Boy”, which in Conan O’brien and I’s opinion is a gay-ass nickname. When he decided to steal the nickname from his ex-pal Tank Abbott, he should of looked around for a cooler name to call himself. The only Tito fight i would like to see right now is Frank Shamrock vs. Tito Ortiz 2, and maybe another 3 rounds with Forrest.

Tito is a jackoff. I’m not sure how else to say it. He wanted the fight. He made it part of his 2005 contract. I think Tito was scared. Dana took it serious, he trained for almost a year for it, and Dana grew up a boxer. Had Dana beat Tito, Tito would be done. Had he beat Dana, well thats what everyone expected. I think Tito made that a part of his contract in 2005 thinking it wouldn’t happen and then when Dana took it serious Tito had to find an excuse to back out. I think Dana should kick Tito out of the UFC. He is a jerk and does not live up to his promise/agreement. I will never ever watch another payperview with Tito in it.

That was absolutely the most ridiculous, juvenile display I have ever had the displeasure of watching. I have lost a ton of respect for the UFC, a sport that on its own merit did not need all these ploys and really just embarassed those of us proud of the fact that is was a real “man” sport, lacking two mean talking about how much they ‘hated each other’ blah blah blah here’s my skirt you hurt my feelings now i have to go watch days or our lives, eat ice cream, and feel better about myself. Now THAT……..pissed me off. What a friggin pussy. Only explanation…is that he was scared. Dana looked pretty good against the 2 heavyweight boxers, has experience, and was in pretty good shape. Tito ran his mouth, and then thought about it. He would of been expected to win easily..but if he didn’t, he would look like a fool. And deep down I don’t think he is as confident in his boxing as he claims. I no longer have ANY respect for him as a fighter. It’s like anything else, if you talk crap, SOMEONE is eventually going to call you on it. And when he got called…..he just didn’t show.

Someone needs to tell Rob that Kobe and Reggie play in the All-Star game and Pro Bowl which are meaningless games in which each of them risk getting injured. It had nothing to do with injuries, cause if Tito can’t last 3 rounds of sparring with Dana White, God forbid he get in the ring with Chuck. Also we know its MMA not Boxing but how much MMA did Chuck use to make him look like a girl the last 2 fights. Tito might wanna take some boxing lessons so he doesn’t get killed on his feet. If I was Dana White I would fire him right now, he made Dana White and the UFC look real bad.

Dana spent time and money to get a licence, train and keep his end of the contract.

So Dana lost: Money, Time and his Spare tire. This bullsh*t show was his and Spike TV’s way of recouping production costs I’d guess.

Tito lost: Dignity, Respect and probably his last real chance of leagaly pounding the sh*t out of his “boss” (and I’m sure he reaaallly wants to right now! - sorry, you had your chance pal).

I lost: 90 minutes of my life.

And yes - I did read all about how this fight didn’t happen - so I have no idea why I expected more than a sucky Dana White propaganda film (You know that “See? Dana’s really just a stand up guy.” - propaganda).

It really was a lose-lose after all: Dana and the LV Boxing Commision got burned (by Tito), Tito gets burned by this whole freggin show, and anyone who watched this BS show got burned.

It was just a way to get our dumb asses to watch it just like a WWF fake show. Here’s the deal. The reason this whole show is airing even though no fight happened, is because Spike shot all the footage and they didn’t want to just let that go to waste. I don’t blame them. When you think about it, it was a 1 - 1/2 hour show which was probably 20 hours of original footage. That is a lot of time and effort not to mention the costs involved with a crew following Dana White around during this time and interviewing people. While it’s not the best ending in the world, there is no reason Spike shouldn’t air it. There are a lot of fans out there that don’t know what really happened with that fight and this show gives them the info they are lacking.

Some people will say that this was a way for Dana to get at Tito but when you watch the show, they did a good job of showing both sides of the story. They gave both people’s opinion on what happened and then the facts about what happened with the lead-up and the non-existent fight.

Anyone who thinks this was all just a publicity stunt sure hasn’t watched much of Tito. The guy is a great coach but he is a schmuck that acts like he is 5 years old when it comes to real life.

So I just finished watching “Bad Blood: White vs. Ortiz”. It was an hour and a half of Dana White playing the roll of the underdog and Tito Ortiz looking like a dick. Yes, Zuffa produced it, so maybe that’s why White looked good and Ortiz looked like a douche. Or maybe Dana really did work hard at training for the fight and Tito bitched out. If anyone has some concrete answers as to the reality behind this business, please let us know. In the meantime, I will take my five minutes to speculate.

Dana looked cut at weigh in, clocking in at 197 lbs. As far as I can tell, those really were the commissioners from the NSAC (http://boxing.nv.gov/commishs.htm). Very pissed commissioners. I think it’s possible White took the time and effort to get into shape and have a camera crew following him around taping his pudgy 37 year old ass get whipped into shape all as a publicity move. Possible, but not very probable. What’s the upshot for White, the UFC or Zuffa? Viewers want fights. No matter how much you may like or hate either Tito or Dana, ninety minutes of them with no fight at the end is bad business. It encourages viewers to watch Pride or K1 (or maybe even… Boxing!). For my part, I was flipping back and forth to a soccer match. Soccer. That right there should indicate the low level of excitement this show generated in my household.

I also don’t think the Nevada State Athletic Commission would allow their name to be dragged into this thing unless they thought it was genuine. Neither do I don’t believe that White would want to make fools of the NSAC, as they are the governing authority for “high-profile venues like the MGM Grand and the Taj Mahal” (http://gauntlet.ucalgary.ca/story/11283) just for a little PR. I really want to believe that White and Zuffa were obligated in some way to Spike for an hour and a half of Tito vs. White.

All that being said, here’s my point. I’m as huge a fan as the next guy of MMA. I agree with several of the previous posters; the second this turns into WWE/ECW/TWA/POS I’m done with the UFC, and so are a healthy number of my fellow fans. White has shown too much business savvy in his running of the UFC, including the “debut of former PRIDE superstar Mirko “Cro Cop” Filipovic, the emergence of several Ultimate Fighter graduates as bona fide title contenders and the recent purchase of PRIDE by the Fertittas” (http://gauntlet.ucalgary.ca/story/11283) to not know this. I think the fight/sparing match was real. I think Tito screwed Dana on it. I think Dana was pissed. My guess is he took the footage that they had filmed for the behind-the-scenes leading up to Tito vs. White and turned it into “Fuck You Tito” aka “Bad Blood”.

Why? Maybe it’s just the next step in the Tito/White pissing match, but I don’t think so. My guess is that as soon as his contract is up, Tito is gone from the UFC, and “Bad Blood” is Dana’s way of ending all the “Tito got screwed” talk before it starts. Instead, talk is going to be “Tito wouldn’t even fight Dana. He was a bitch. I glad he’s gone.”

When you get handed a lemon, make lemonade.

One final note. To all the posters who bitch about the UFC being Mixed Martial Arts and not boxing and that therefore there shouldn’t be any boxing in the UFC (Specifically, posts like
This is MMA not BOXING!
), piss off. Boxing IS a martial art.
From wiktionary.com:
“martial art (plural martial arts)

1. Commonly, any of several fighting styles which contain systematized methods of training for combat, both armed and unarmed; often practiced as a sport, e.g. boxing, karate, judo, wrestling, or Muay Thai.”

And in my not so humble opinion, the finer points of boxing are all too often overlooked in MMA. If you disagree, go watch any Ali fight on ESPN Classic, and then re-watch the Couture vs. Sylvia fight. There is the perfect example of great boxing (a la Ali) allowing the older smaller fighter to kick the shit out of the bigger younger fighter.

Peace.

Can anyone explain to me why the last few UFC events, and the up and coming UFC 70 are not being held in Vegas? Was this supposed to be a big joke against the Nevada gaming commision?

This was some real bullshit. Fuck the UFC for even putting this on TV. One of the biggest wastes of an hour and half I have ever been a part of. It seems like the UFC is disappointing more times than not lately.

This SUCKED! I wish we had seen this board last night BEFORE we wasted our time watching the hour and a half of Dana training! Spike should have been HONEST with the Viewers and not HYPED it as an ACTUAL FIGHT! SO NOT HAPPY With SPIKE or with UFC.

What a waste of time! Who wants to watch Dana White Train! I would rather they talk about how much money he has or an hour and a half of the ring girls, but come on! I love UFC, but they just lost me for a while. Tito is a pussy, just show up and take it easy on Dana and everyone would have been happy. I know why the PPV cost so much to pay for the Nice car a Jet! Dana is an ASS!

Unfu*king believable, I too wish I had found this site earlier, although I fell asleep it was so boring and found this site looking for results!!!
Hold up on the girl jokes, Im a woman & I’ve been watching these fights since I didn’t even know who the fuck Dana White was, sure he’s done alot for the U.F.C.-dollar wise and that is good. These fights were way better before they became the mainsteam,everybody’s-a-badass&loves-the-UFC-anyway! What ever happen to them pounding the hell outta eachother? Now a days it’s broken up before too much blood!(Huerta vs.Garcia-now that was a fight!) If Dana White wants to really do something he needs to work on getting these fights legal in more places, like Detroit, for instance, with all of the casinos and newer venues here (yes, I’m a motercity badgirl).Forget about trying to turn this into the WWE or the IFL that shit sucks, a true fan isn’t about the hype, we’re about the fight! I know the IFL has good fighters and I kinda like how they have teams, but other than that it’s all show!
I think I’ll stick to King of the Cage, Pride, and even Bodog is better than what UFC is turning into!
I usually enjoy UFC promotions, but what a waste of time. After this disgrace I will have to reconsider my interest in UFC…
I’m so pissed!! This bullshit is a disgrace! I love UFC but I’m not interested in all the bitchy “he said she said” bullshit. I tune in to watch guys get pounded not to watch a soap opera. What Tito and Dana did was an insult to the fans of UFC and to real fighters who take this sport to heart and dedicate thier lives to giving people what they want…Action! I hope this type of bullshit does repeat itself. Dana needs to stick with what he knows; promoting UFC and lining his pockets. By the way, did anyone notice his potbelly?

First I would like to say that that show was BS. Tito should have shown up what a puss… Tito has gotten way to big headed no pun intended. Dana White and Zuffa have done great things for the UFC and MMA. When it comes to Tito its al about the money and the guy is not the champ. I completly understand why they showed this program. Tito hyped it up and ran away. Now I understand why Ken S. hated him so much. It doesn’t matter if you are a Tito fan ( Like i was ) or not we got to see his true colors and, no one should be pissed at Dana White, Zuffa, Spike TV, or the UFC the problem is Tito and his ego.
Second the reason the UFC was bought by Zuffa is because they were going under and there was only a few citys that would allow them to fight because it was a danger to the fighters. The rules that are currently in place help to make sure people don’t get seriously injured. I have been a fan from the begining and cuntinue to do so. I think Dana White, Zuffa and the UFC do a great job with entertaining the fans and grow the buisness. Ask any MMA fighter out there and the UFC is where they want to be. Just look at the turn out for the TUF auditions.

What a flipping Joke!!!! After watching for an hour and 15 minutes of Dana Sweating his ass off — I was still thinking that maybe this training crap is taking so long because the fight only last 1 minute. I lost respect for spike and ufc.
I can only hope since spike sucks that the new tv channel the “fight network” will be honest!!

This was complete crap, I didn’t read this website first, Does anyone have Zuffa’s mailing address or Dana’s email. This is complete crap that they would waste 90 minutes of my time to have no fight. This should have never been aired ever.

They keep pulling this crap and having the weak ultimate fighter fights and they are going to have a hard time getting people to tune into their televised events.

haha man I wish I would have found this site as well…I had to work so I didnt watch the footage until today and was pretty upset that it didnt go down.

Im pissed but im not all flipping out against the UFC, I believe that Ortiz is really that childish to back out (like standing up to a bully only to have them back down) so it sucks White actually took it seriously (cant complain about being in better shape) and the Huntington Beach Bitch Boy bows out with some sketchy reasoning.

And to the person who mentioned the NSGC and the fights not being in Vegas…I would think theyre trying to get UFC out there more and staying in one places doenst allow for that and also it gives more fans the chance to experience it live

Unbelievable, what a complete waste of time. I used to respect Dana White for what he has done with the UFC, but after an hour and a half of listening to him blow smoke up his own hoo-hoo, I have lost all respect.

Yes Tito is a chump and only cares about the money and is on the verge of being washed up (Sureal Life is next). But Dana is a bigger chump for making an hour and a half show about him doing everything right. BS. He’s going to keep pushing the hype until he turns himself into Vince McMahon and complete ruins the UFC. Somebody else needs to run the show now. Dana’s gotta go!

Boy do I feel like an idiot. 90 minutes of my life wasted. They could of covered this in half an hour. I think most of the fighters are pricks already and now I think Dana is a prick too. If you are a pro you shouldn’t need to hate the other guy to kick the crap out of him. On the flip side reality is that just because you hate someone doesn’t mean you get to kick the crap out of him. The least they could of done was say at the outset that the fight wasn’t going to happen. Nope instead they LIED and said it was going to happen. While I am bashing Dana and the UFC, is anyone else appalled at the bunch of banty roosters and rabid chihuahua’s on the latest Ultimate Fighter season? 55 minutes of posturing and trash talking followed by a one or two minute fight. One last bitch, they need to let the fights go a little longer, too many early ref stopages.

Okay I see I’m not the only one extremely pissed about last night. What complete bullshit! Dana said last night that this wasn’t promotional…the f**k it wasn’t. My boyfriend kept saying all the way through the show that Tito’s a punk… I was sticking up for him. Now?.. I still don’t think he’s a punk. I think he’s a pussy!! And Dana’s even more of a jerk-off for getting us pumped up for a fight that was never gonna happen. Honestly, they’re probably laughing their asses off at us right now. They suckered us in, got ratings and maded a shit load of money.
