Having the fight in Rich Franklin’s hometown should help Rich, but it won’t. There is nothing like beating a guy on his own turf and Anderson Silva has Rich’s number. He may submit him this time out of boredom.

Having this fight in Cincinnati is great for the UFC, but not for Franklin. The UFC is gonna make a killing, but i think there’s too much pressure on Franklin. I think Franklin is gonna get beat up regardless if its in Cincinnati or Vegas. I dont think Franklin should take this fight to the ground, his forte is striking, so he should stick with that. Im rooting for Silva via knees.

Anderson Silva is my favorite fighter, and is most likely going to win again. However, it is within the realm of possibility that Franklin could get a lucky punch that downs Silva and get a stoppage. But I doubt it.

Rich needs to get a ground game ASAP wich he doesnt have, I beleive Silva will win the guy trains with Vanderlei Silva and Chuto boxTeam come on now all those guys are dope their in the game to hurt people to many weapons in the arsenal the only way Rich will win is a lucky punch and to bring his “A” game also dont measure up dont nothing go in for takedowns or step in toe to toe as close as you can without getting caught in the Muy Thai clinch again if on the ground watch out for Andersons deadly elbows and submissions I beleive Anderson can be submitted with leg locks or triangle chokes thats how he lost before, and to boot to smaller asian guys who had nuts and werent afraid to try something diffrent you know, thats what Rcih needs to do something diffrent, cause if they interview him and he says I need to train harder nope that wont work just get some nut about yourself and go out there and put in work, PERIOD.

This is just a bad match-up for Franklin Silva is much better striker. The only way that Franklin has change is if you utilizes his ground game…which I have never seen him lose. Call me crazy but the only person that seem to hold his own for a SECOND with Silva was Travis lutter. I’m not a big fan of Silva but I dont see anyone in that weight division beating him.

I thought that anderson wasnt training wit chute box ne more. Either way Rich wont be mentally tough enough to win. The flashbacks of his last fight wit Anderson, as well as the hometown pressure will be 2 much for rich to overcome.

I like Ace a lot, but Im a realist.. Silva rd 1 TKO

Since when does Franklin not have a ground game? He isn’t a BJJ blackbelt, but he has one in his camp in Jorge Gurgel. Not to mention he has a few wins by armbars and even a keylock.

Looking back and watching the fight on UFC Unleashed last night, I couldn’t help but think, why didnt he take him down? If for no other reason than to stop getting knee’d in the stomach in the clinch. Franklin will come back with a much better gameplan this time around, and I expect a much better fight. HOPEFULLY, Franklin by TKO (Strikes) in the end of the 2nd round. *Anderson is so good though, gonna be tough*

Right on! Main Event will put people in the stands, but I am not sure it will make for a big PPV. Tim Sylvia and ? That may be a good fight depending on who the UFC puts in the ring with him. The rest of the card is a slow night on ‘Spike’.

I don’t think you can question Franklin’s mentality. I hope he does come back stronger and better prepared for this fight but Silva pretty much has his number at every level. I think Ace only has a puncher’s chance. But that still counts for a lot in UFC

At least the Crow and Tanner hung in there, unlike someone else.

I think it is a very real possibility that Franklin could defeat Silva. Silva is no where near perfect. Remember watching the Silva/ Lutter fight? Lutter mounted Silva! Travis Lutter isn’t a great fighter. He also was sucking wind from cutting all that weight at the last minute. I wonder what would happed if Franklin mounted Silva? Anyway, Franklin would be a fool to wind up in the same clinch, eating those knees again.

Keep hatin on Anderson Silva. Everyone said he’d lose to Marquardt b/c of his ground game. Silva won the Marquardt fight b/c of his ground game. He made an incredible sweep on Marquardt and then the bombs started dropping. If Marquardt (who IMO has the best ground game of any mw) couldn’t beat Anderson on the ground how does a striker like Franklin have any chance of beating Silva on the ground, or on the feet for that matter?

Comment by Vee
2007-08-28 14:41:16

Making assumptions of Franklin’s mindset going into this fight does not make sense. It is similar to everybody questioning GSP prior to his domination of Koscheck.

To date, you never saw Anderson Silva go for more than 1 round in the UFC except in his match against Travis Lutter. Now the argument can be made about the level of competition or Anderson’s eminent techniques and abilities.

Stop making excuses for Rich. Yes, it was one fight. However if Anderson Silva happens to defeat Franklin in the first round in UFC77 then I think it is safe to say that Anderson owns Rich.

My point is this rematch can go anyway.

Does anyone remember how Couture won via TKO vs. Liddell the first time they fought and then lost the next two fights to Chuck by knockout? Or what about Georges St. Pierre losing to Matt Hughes in UFC 50 and then coming back in UFC 65 to get a TKO and make Hughes look bad? There are many, many examples of this (with both high and low profile fighters) and they all remind us that this is mma is unpredictable because fighters change. Some get better; some get worse; some get lucky; some have better skills but lose because they get caught.

Rich deserves this rematch because he is a proven fighter who has been there before. His record alone speaks for itself with over 20 wins and only 2 losses. If I recall, Silva has 4 or 5 losses. I agree that Rich is an underdog here but for those of you that say there is no chance for him to win and that he has no reason getting this rematch, you are obviously new to the sport of mixed martial arts.

Rich is gonna prolong the fight by maybe a round….he’s not better than Silva though…Silva will set the pace, push Rich to his limits, and get another huge victory over him. I betcha after this fight Rich seriously considers moving back to 205.

And as much as everyone thinks Vera is gonna beat Timmy into submission, don’t forget Sylvia has some of best hands in the HW division, the fight will not go to the ground, it’s gonna be a stand and punch each other in the fact type of fight. I think Timmy wins by decision or TKO.

At one point in the spiders fight with Lutter, Lutter was on top pounding on spideys head with no defense coming from spidey, but just couldn’t keep it up, he was so drained from the weight cut. If Franklin gets in that position on spidey, he will pound his head through the octagon mat. I think thats the way this one ends.

I think Rich will perform better than last time…. but I also think that the ufc, which is getting bad at it, will give silva a handicap. I think at any second the fight goes into franklin`s court.. the ref will be there looking for any chance to call the fight… claiming franlin the winner. OR it will go to decision and they`ll give it to franklin, regardless of the dominant one in the fight.

I`m going for Silva.

Franklin has a good chance to win this fight. He is much stronger physically than Silva is. Remember, Rich fought at 205 before 185. Rich did not look like himself that night and Anderson is too good a fighter not to take advantage of a situation like that. I think this has the potential to be one of the best fights of the year but only if the Rich Franklin fights like we know he can. Anderson just brings it everytime. So, excited for this fight.

Rich will win this fight as he is a well rounded striker and he plays the fight game smart. Rich won’t put himself in a situation that is going to jeopardize his victory. Silva holds a win over Franklin, which will automatically boost his confidence allowing him to “under-estimate” the “Ace” which will prove to be his downfall. Silva is Very talented and I like both fighters, but I think the rematch is going to go to Ace, and maybe not by knock out, but still to Ace. Ace was off in his first fight, anyone who watches that fight will see that Ace wasn’t himself. Ace for UFC 77!!!

Franklin is gunna lose again, he’ll make it to the 2nd round this time but Silva is gunna hand him another tko..Anderson Silva is the most exciting fighter to watch and im pretty sure hes not going to disappoint anyone on October 20th…

That just shows what this man is capable of, hes gunna throw the kitchen sink at franklin and rich isnt going to know what to do.

Granted, Silva is a Great fighter, probably the best, but Lets not count franklin out, we all know a fight can go either way in a split second. Rich Franklin wasn’t prepared for the “likes of Anderson Silva” the first time that they fought, he got caught, and beat down. This time Franklin knows what to expect from Silva, and he’s going to win the fight. Rich won’t dominate Silva but he is going to beat him via TKO. Rich Franklin has a phenominal record, and he’s a smart fighter who won’t put himself into a bad situation, or minimize his chances of not getting caught by Anderson’s deadly strikes. This is going to be an exciting fight, and I think Rich will take it, although it really could go either way. My hats off to both fighters, as they are both my favorites #1 and 2 in the Middleweight division! I can’t wait to see it none the less!

RICH FRANKLIN has all the tools to beat any fighter in the U.F.C. the only question is, has he gotten over it mentally, I think he`s a smart enough guy to understand that no fighter can win every fight .If rich is mentally strong its going to be a long night for Anderson Silvia and all his couch potato crictic`s

We will definitely see a much stronger performance from Ace. He was definitely not himself in the first match up with Spidey. Rich not only has a chance he has a strong chance. Very unpridictable fight on the 20th. Anderson also has a strong chance. Rich needs to put him on the ground, look for the mount, & put his head through the canvass for the stoppage. Very excited to see how the rematch plays out. Go Ace!

LOL at all of those who think Frankin doesnt stand a chance. Its just a fight.Last time Rich expected to dominate in the clinch and got surprised (and injured) by the first few knees to the body and couldn’t break out. With a better game plan and given the fact that Rich is way stronger (technique aside) It will be a battle. Its anyones fight to win.
