The “biggest” news to come out of UFC 77: “Hostile Territory” is the acquisition of heavyweight Brock Lesnar, a four-time Minnesota Golden Gophers All American wrestler and NCAA champion.
He’s also a former professional wrestler and NFL dropout with the Minnesota Vikings.
At 6′2″ tall, Lesnar is a huge ball of muscle, weighing in the neighborhood of 285-295 pounds. He’ll have some work to do prior to his Octagon debut to come in under the 265-pound division limit.
No date or opponent has been named at this time. However, UFC.com mentions that we will see him soon.
Here’s a snip from UFC president Dana White on the recent signing:
“I don’t think there are any other pro wrestlers that can make the transition to MMA, except for Brock Lesnar. And if you look at his amateur wrestling credentials, his size, and what he’s done, this guy can end up being a force in the heavyweight division of the UFC.”
Lesnar has been training mixed martial arts for about two years. And he has one professional win to his credit — a first round pummeling of Min Soo Kim at a K-1 Hero’s event this past June.
He hasn’t been tested up until this point of his career. However, he’s a mountain of a man with impeccable wrestling credentials.
It should be very interesting to see if he can develop into a heavyweight contender.

I can’t believe the UFC signed him. It will be intersting to see if he can fight with the caliber of fighters in the UFC, but I don’t see him beating Big Nog or even Tim Sylvia in the near future.
This shall be interesting.
Dumb move by the ufc Brock is to inexperienced in fights! he has had 1 fight against a weak fighter. many more deserving people could be signed like FEDOR or MELENDEZ.
Brock is once again all hype i cant see him beating the top fighters in the ufc heavyweight division
Early 2008? maybe CroCop could be his first opponent.
This shall be interesting.
I agree. I would love to see Brock pound Sylvia through the mat.
endurance will be his real problem… I’ve seen him in his only fight, he his huge. 50% fat though
Maybe AA will eat him.
like kenny florian said, if you’re a heavy weight fighter in the ufc and joe silva calls you, you better hope and pray he doesn’t tell you you’re fighting brock lesnar…
this guy could be awsome. right now he’s just pure unmatched power and athleticism without a full mma game though. no matter what, he needs to develop a standup striking game to compliment his wrestling skills, and submission defense to compliment his ground and pound to become a title contender.
i say start him with a good ufc gate keeper fight. maybe an eddie sanchez type. see how he does then match him up with good but not great fighters that will force him to develop skills. like assuerio silva for submission defense, paul buntello for striking, ect
this guy could be awsome but needs to develop his game. right now i think big nog, tim sylvia, and arlovsky would own him. where is AA anyway?

Yes brock is inexperienced but just like alot of other fighters he has credentials and i think he will do very well. Tim sylvia i think should be calling brock out. I cant say enough about how much i hate watching tim as a fighter. And think brock would make a good tim would make a good matchup just to see where brock stands. And big nog is just way to over rated as a fighter. I mean look at his fight with heath hearing. The guy stinks. All i really have to say is i think he a great addition to the heavy weight divison.
i don’t think brock is at all ready for guys like big nog who are really good all around mma fighters, but guys like sylvia who rely on their size are gonna be in trouble against brock, sylvia just isn’t strong enough for him, he’d get handled in that fight…
he’ll bring more ppv buys and it’ll be interesting to watch him develop.. the ufc is gonna spoon feed him like the rest of the protected fighters in other weight classes…
maybe he’ll be a heavyweight sean sherk! oh goody!
have to see what he does.
Juice anyone?
Look at his head, it’s a perfect square!
I think he’s way too inexperienced to put in against even a b-level heavyweight. He’s also way too big a name for TUF, although that’s probably more the level of competition he should be facing.
I keep wondering if Dana is going to sign Kurt Angle now and introduce the UFC tag team belt.
Juice anyone?

Kinda like Matt Hughes. It’s going to be very difficult to submit him with a triangle choke or a rear-naked choke.
The funny thing is somebody asked Dana at the Q and A session on Friday “Dana have you signed Brock Lesnar?” Dana says no but I am very interested.
Dana might be an idiot, or he might not be giving us clues and hints, and might be smarter than we think.
He also says Mayhem Miller still fights for WEC… yeah that was 6 months ago
If Brock has decent hands speed and can throw a few he will beat a lot of heavies in the UFC… once he gets a hold of their legs, they’re going down. If he’s working hard on his GnP skills, he’s so strong he won’t be an easy target to be submitted.
A matchup with Tim Silvia would be a nightmare… Brock would take him down all night long.
The only question mark with respect to Lesnar is does he has “the killer instict”? I believe that the guy is more accomplished in NCAA wrestling than anyone else besides Koscheck. In a year and a half or so and with the right training team he has the potential to be a major force in the UFC.
I really just hope the UFC treats his career right and doesnt just try to milk his popularity and throw him to the wolves right off. His size and wrestling background is a very good start and if he is trained and brought up carefully he could pose a serious threat for the HW division.
Putting him in right now against a legitimate HW in the UFC is a horrible idea and a complete lose/lose situation for everyone involved.
i hink the ufc should give him someone like brad imes two big guys fighting.i think brock could win that
NICE TO SEE HOW UFC CONTINUES TO CONTRACT INDIVIDUALS USING STEROIDS-See Lesnar’s mug shots for being arrested and charged for illegal possession of STEROIDS! Way to go UFC!
i hope brock ends tim sylvias career.
It’s tough to get an idea of where his abilities are at this point, but I do think someone with his size and NCAA wrestling credentials has a chance to be a force with the right training. I also think he deserves some credit for leaving pro wrestling behind and putting his skills to the test in MMA. Overall, he looks like a good addition to the heavyweight ranks, it was looking kind of lackluster compared to some of the other divisions.
Didn’t he weigh in at ~250 for his fight with K-1?
This is a very good move by the UFC.
he’s just gonna be another kevin randlemen
“Hit with a trafficking in controlled substances charge, Lesnar was exonerated when tests showed that the seized pills were not, in fact, steroids.”
Thats a quote from the smoking gun. Read the report. lol. Kinda humorous.
NICE TO SEE HOW UFC CONTINUES TO CONTRACT INDIVIDUALS USING STEROIDS-See Lesnar’s mug shots for being arrested and charged for illegal possession of STEROIDS! Way to go UFC!
got some proof to back that up?
I have been a huge Brock Lesnar supporter, and I think this is a great move. I think if you give him the TUF route and feed him bottomfeeders, man you can make this kid a superstar. He has the best wrestling in the heavyweight division, oh wait, isn’t he the only wrestler in the heavyweight division =p
Wrestling isnt everything!
Brock will find that the hard way!
Brock Lesnar came into his first MMA fight (K1) weighing 260.5 lbs.
Considering he was 280 plus in the WWE and appeared overall larger. He has slowed his roid use to shorter acting compounds that will allow him to stay under the radar. Rest assured, Brock will use enough to keep his size but will beat the tests, we all do… He will be a tough competitor if his chin proves worthy.
first of all hes not on steroids hes always been huge even in high school he was huge,i think he will beat some people up pretty bad ,he doesnt know his own strength he has punching power of lebanner, size of bob sapp ,wrestling abbilty of couture and the tenasity of rampage jackson but the one thing that stands out is his unbridled power ,im serious when i say hes no joke and neither is kim the man he beat in his rookie fight ,,you wanna wonder when the next fight for briock will be ,serra /hudhes fight card or the january or febuary card he cant be in bad shape training w nelson and sherk,i think hell do fine if he has attrition management
They say no other pro wrestler could make the jump b/c they don’t have Lesnar’s amateur wrestling resume. Kurt Angle was a gold medalist in wrestling, and he’s huge too.
I don’t really care one way or the other. Every UFC fighter in the heavyweight div is boring as hell. Big Nog is good, but he’s still boring as hell too. If he fights Sylvia for the title, I swear to god I will fall asleep while they hug each other for 25 mins. Fedor & Randy are both interesting b/c they’re active and actually try to finish fights. The only guy more retarded and awkward than Sylvia is that Giant Silva guy from PRIDE.
BRROOOOCKKKKKK LESNAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAR SMAAAAAASH!

Brock needs to train his ass off if he is going to do anything in the UFC. He also needs to stop lifting weights altogether for a while and just work on his cardio and weight.
anybody kno where i can see the Grice vs Black and the Starnes vs Belcher?
This will be fun to watch. I could see it blowing up either in dollars or blowin up in Dana’s face

I dunno, I think you throw Heath Herring, an expierenced name with big fights under his belt against Brock Lesnar. Because I do not want Brad Imes gogoplating Brock Lesnar in his debut. Brock Lesnar might cause Randy to come back. Just wait.
Whoever the UFC gives him will probably be a walk through because they can’t have this guy losing because it looks so bad.
Anyone else thinking Randleman redux?
will be interested to see his first ufc fight
when you look back at other wrestlers like coutoure coleman randleman lindland koscheck hughes sherk he is in with a good chance of making the conversion to mma
these guys got away with poor punching ability for years and were pretty successful
if brock does have some decent stand up and some GNP and a good chin then the HW division will be in trouble
in terms of marketability and ppv draw he is probably greater than most of the pride guys
hes pretty much guaranteed to do better in the ufc than crocop has so give the guy a chance … dont just bash him… he should also give fights which are more entertaining than sylvia and arlovski recently
im slightly suprised hes being thrown in at the dep end so soon… unless hes had a lot of underground mma matches. it seems a little strange that hed go straight in to the big league after 1 fight
The UFC will most certainly give Brock Lesnar an “Elvis Sinosic” level fighter for his debut. With the lack of follow through among a great deal of the UFC’s “premier” acquisitions, they cannot afford to have Brock Lesnar lose. Nor can they have him come even close to losing his first match. The UFC needs Brock to dominate and keep the quote-on-quote hype at bay.
By giving him an Elvis Sinosic level fighter, the UFC can minimize the scrutiny of pairing Brock up with a no-name fighter with no experience, but at the same time, align him with a fighter extremely unlikely to match-up well with the monster known as Brock Lesnar, thus increasing the likelihood of a Brock Lesnar demolition.
Am I a fan of Brock Lesnar? Honestly, NO! I’m certainly not in favor of him pursuing an MMA career because I have followed him throughout his professional wrestling career and watched his greed for money control his career. Additionally, I have listened to his belief that his “natural” athleticism alone makes him a top performer in whatever sport he chooses to partake in.
If Brock works diligently to become a quality MMA practictioner, I can respect that. My only worry is that Brock will utilize his heavy-mass stature to re-define the phrase, “lay-n-pray.” As MMA fans, let us hope that is not the case because if so, we are in for a very, very boring heavyweight acquisition.

milking popularity is all the ufc does
This guy can surely change the Hwt landscape in a year or 2. Right now, Tim would wallop him. Yeah, bla bla, “Tim sucks”…..whatever. He’s unorthodox, but the guy knows how to get the W. I’d like to see Nog a few more times and Gonzaga too.
Machine thanks for the youtube links. Lesnar looks less than his WWF “Stellar” physique there. He had no trouble passing and getting the mount after mhis immediate take down.

It looks like the UFC will protect their investment for a while until he’s ready to face some somewhat named competition.
He’ll put people in the seats for sure. that’s all UFC cares about anyway.
If they can do it for Bisping and Huerta, they sure as heck can do it for Brock Lesnar.
I think it’s a win win situation for Dana and the UFC. Brock had that interview a couple months back where he was bad mouthing the talent in the UFC and saying how nobody was in his caliber and he would smash everyone. In turn Dana turns around signs and and basically says alright time to back up those words. If he gets demolished it will send a message Dana can say I told you wresters couldn’t cut it here and fans get to watch him get pumbeled after he bad mouthed basically every talent in the ufc. On the other hand if he wins Dana can continue to build up his story line which I think we all know he does (bisping vs. nobodys) and jump on his bandwagon. Anyway you look at it it is win win as long as he is not the headline fight in his first match, but that also wouldn’t surprise me having seen the upcoming headliners or rashad and bisping.
A True sign of desperation..Perhaps they should sign Ronaldo since he can kick well.
A True sign of desperation..Perhaps they should sign Ronaldo since he can kick well.
Well I guess we found the man to defeat Anderson Silva, another brazilian!
I’m laughing at the people making comments such as “He can’t beat Big Nog.” So the f*ck what? How many people can? It’s not like they said he was gonna get a title shot right away. If he’s a fraud, then he will be exposed soon enough. If not, enjoy the show!
Bring the Pain!!!!!!!! The HW division is officially on notice!
He’s definitely more marketable than Fedor. Speaking of marketability, next week’s episode of “Shark” (with James Woods) involves “ultimate fighting”.
I heard people say he has a lot of fat but if he has to make the 265 weight limit, he will lose most of that plus build up some serious cardio. I can’t wait to see him fight. He’d better train like crazy though. Nothings ever for sure.
if he starts to dominate, I will bet you anything that Randy will want to return…
Steroid testing! mark my words…this guy will do nothing, everyone should see and know…wrestling is 1/5 of mma…wait till he gets hit a couple times. And again…thats if he can pass a simple drug test
Anyone think he passes the roid tests…..doubtful.

a total yes, and manny gamburyan with different haircut should have been wolverine in x-men. short, muscular, and hairy.
Give me a freakin break!
yeah you’re right. he looks totally like Eddie Brock and should’ve been Venom instead of that weak Topher Grace. Too bad he can’t act. I remember seeing Jason Black and thinking to myself that he kind of looked like Hugh Jackman for Wolverine.

Do you not think GG is not Top of the Food Chain in the HW rankings? I think he can handle anyone in there, especially once it hits the ground. Gonzaga losing to Randy should still keep him in the #2 spot until proven different, or am I wrong? He cut through CC quicker then Cheech. His only loss is to Randy and has cut through the HW division quickly and he has finished all of his fights no decisions. He should be the first man fighting for belt…

You are mixing the Nogs up. Little Nog was KOd, Big Nog has 4 losses by decision. 1 to Dan Henderson, 2 to Fedor, 1 to Barnett.

I’ve always been a huge Lesnar fan and can’t wait to see him compete. But seriously, the guy needs to fight a scrub or two to gain experience.
